Merci beaucoup to everyone that participated in our Urban Ministries of Durham Day last Saturday. We’re so excited to announce that together we raised $2,000 for UMD! Even better? Our donation will be matched in kind, so in fact it’s worth a whopping $4,000 to our Durham neighbors in need. Thanks again, we really appreciate all the support for this great cause!

march 23rd is urban ministries of durham day at vert & vogue

Vert & Vogue to hold UMD Day on Saturday, March 23rd, and donate 20% of sales to benefit women like Tersa.

DURHAM – Tersa came to Urban Ministries of Durham last year, suddenly homeless after relocating to Durham for a nanny position that ended unexpectedly. Tersa was ready to do whatever it took to improve her circumstances and those of her two-year-old daughter. With the help of her UMD case manager, Nicole Robinson, she quickly found an interim job at a downtown restaurant.

With Nicole’s help, she found affordable daycare and brushed up on her cover letter and resume. Then she started to identify job opportunities that would advance her customer service career and fully provide for her family. Through UMD’s partnership with Dress for Success, Tersa got a new business suit, too.

Feeling more confident, she began to interview, and within a few weeks, she landed a job at a financial services company. The job “was full time with benefits, and with a daughter, I needed that,” she recalls. (Watch her tell her story in this video.) That job enabled her to move her toddler from Urban Ministries’ family shelter into their own apartment.

Vert & Vogue boutique in Durham’s Brightleaf Square cares for neighbors in need. For the second year in a row, they’re teaming up with Urban Ministries of Durham to help clients like Tersa.

On Saturday, March 23rd, the boutique will unveil its newly renovated showroom, spring collection and Vert & Vogue line of women’s shirting. To celebrate, the business will donate 20% of its sales that day to support the work of Urban Ministries. We invite you to participate to help to increase the amount of the donation – and also to help spread the word about UMD Day at Vert & Vogue. Please forward this note to your friends and post it on your social media. See the shop’s Facebook page.

Vert & Vogue will also leverage their annual spring client clothing exchange to build the stock of clothing available for Dress for Success. This will help other women like Tersa improve their self-image and perception of the world.
